In practice marriage gives deplorable results. Far from being a guarantee of concord and happiness, it gives birth to the worst forms of hypocrisy and the most sorrowful situations.

One danger of concentrating on only one person at an early age is the real chance a boy takes that he'll someday wake up to discover there are a great many different kinds of girls in the world and a lot of different experiences, sexual and otherwise, he could have been having if he hadn't concentrated on one. It's a shame to miss so much of life before settling down to marriage, to miss part of that wonderful youthful freedom that won't come gain. Too often the boy who has been involved with one girl almost from the beginning and has entered into a very young marriage begins to think of himself as trapped...

From the sacredness it follows that infidelity is a crime, and therefore a certain marriage law imposes upon it a shorter or longer penalty. But by those who proclaim "freedom as sacred" this penalty must be regarded as a crime against freedom...

The courts hold if the law solemnly pronounce two married, that they are married, whether love is present or not. But is this really such a marriage as this enlightened age should demand? No! It is a stupidly arbitrary law, which can find no analogies in nature. Nature proclaims in broadest terms, and all her subjects reecho the same grand truth, that sexual unions, which result in reproduction, are marriage. And sex exists wherever there is reproduction.
